We are having a party today!
Soul Screamers is a series that follows Banshee Kaylee Cavanaugh as she finds out the extent of her powers and why she screams when someone is about to die.
Something is wrong with Kaylee Cavanaugh. She doesn’t see dead people, but…
She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.
Kaylee just wants to be a normal girl, basking in the joy of having caught the attention of Nash, the hottest guy in school. But getting through a first date isn’t easy when he seems to know more about Kaylee’s need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only she knows who’ll be next…
Ana reviewed (and loved) the first book, My Soul to Take last year and you can read her review here as well as read a guest post by the author on her inspirations for writing the book.
And book 2, My Soul To Save has been released in early January:
When teen pop star Eden croaks on stage and Kaylee doesn’t wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can’t cry for someone who has no soul.
The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad’s ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend’s loyalty to the test. But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls for a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld—a consequence they can’t possibly understand.
Kaylee can’t let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk.
To one lucky winner: One copy of both books in the Soul Screamers series: My Soul To Take and My Soul To Save
Plus two additional winners can win one copy of book 2 in the series, My Soul to Save!
In order to enter all you have to do is to leave a comment on this post telling us what is your favorite YA series at the moment and why. The contest is open to everybody and will run till February 15th 11:59pm (Pacific). GOOD LUCK!

VanessaFebruary 4, 2010 at 7:45 am
Wicked Lovely 🙂 Tis a fascinating world… anxiously awaiting the fourth in the series.
LustyreaderFebruary 4, 2010 at 7:47 am
oh the first in this series was one of my top reads in 2009! my *current* favorite YA series has got to be Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy, something about the paranormals has been really appealing to me lately!
Paige MacGregorFebruary 4, 2010 at 7:50 am
My favorite Young Adult series at the moment is a throwback – The Song of the Lioness series by Tamora Pierce. I fell in love with Pierce’s writing the first time I picked up ALANNA: THE FIRST ADVENTURE as a pre-teen in the mid-90s, and I found the books while cleaning out the basement recently. I decided to give them a second go and they were even better than the first time. Pierce’s writing is accessible to pre-teens and teenagers, but her writing also has a depth that can withstand the passage of time and prove a valuable reading experience for readers in their 20s and even 30s, even if they’ve read the series before.

Great contest! My favourite YA series at the moment is The Demons Lexicon (does a trilogy count as a series)?) by Sarah Rees Brennan I absolutely loved the first book and cannot wait for the second. Its dark, twisty funny and unputdownable Its set in the UK (where I live) which makes a refreshing change and makes it a little bit more real – as if the demons and Goblin Market didn’t do that on their own 😆
wildchildFebruary 4, 2010 at 8:17 am
Has to be Twilight series – probably what most people would say, even if they won’t admit it
Jen D.February 4, 2010 at 8:26 am
My favorite YA series at the moment is Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires series.
AmyFebruary 4, 2010 at 8:33 am
Hunger Games series is my current favorite.
Sarah keeryFebruary 4, 2010 at 8:37 am
Sad to say but the Harry Potter books most caught my imagination.
Karen MahoneyFebruary 4, 2010 at 9:43 am
Oh me!! I want Book 2! 🙂
Okay, my favourite YA series at the moment is Sarah Rees Brennan’s (starting with THE DEMON’S LEXICON). I cannot wait for THE DEMON’S COVENANT – it is my most anticipated book of 2010. I’ve read Book 1 twice. I love it because the writing is some of the best I have ever seen in a debut YA book. Also, the characters are wonderful and fully-realized, despite the 3rd-person limited POV. Finally, they are funny and moving all at once – not an easy trick to pull off.
SarahFebruary 4, 2010 at 9:47 am
I have to say my favorite YA Series right now is the Bloody Jack Series by L.A. Meyer. This series has such amazing characters and pirates. This series is so much fun to read and keeps you on your toes. Who will Jacky end up with? I think Jamie, but I really want it to be Jared! 😀
FrancescaFebruary 4, 2010 at 9:49 am
My favourite YA novel is Hunger Games of SUzanne Collins, it’s a real page turner!
CarolFebruary 4, 2010 at 9:56 am

Courtney RaeFebruary 4, 2010 at 10:09 am
My favorite YA series…errmm.. that’s tough to pick just one. I love, love, love Beautiful Creatures and definitley cannot wait for the books to come in that series.
I also really got into The Wake Trilogy by Lisa Mcmann. Janie is a girl you can look up to. She has her obstacle. It troubles her life, but she learns how to use it for good.
SharliFebruary 4, 2010 at 10:12 am
I’ll say Shiver and Beautiful Creatures are my current favorite 😀
Thanks for the giveaway!
Donna SFebruary 4, 2010 at 10:17 am
My current favorite is The Mortal Instruments series. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and couldnt wait to find out what happened next.
AliciaFebruary 4, 2010 at 10:21 am
currently my favorite YA series is the Luxe series. I’m on the last one and loving every minute!
PiscesMuseFebruary 4, 2010 at 10:32 am
Last spring I finished the Percy Jackson Olympian series. It is more of a middle grade book, but I still found it amazing. Also, I am very excited for the movie.
I have a thing for Vampires, so this fall I had picked up the House of Night Series, but was quite disappointed. It info dumps a lot. The series retells a lot. And then they cast a circle at the end and solve their problem in 5 pages. Furthermore, the time lines under which the stories happens are completely implausible.
Since this experience I have been a little weary of young adult, but have been longing to give it another chance. Please set me free and let me win a copy of these books. I really want to find my love for young adult again.
Viki S.February 4, 2010 at 11:16 am
At the moment my favorite YA series is Alyson Noels, Immortal Series. Ever has so many flaws yet you have to root for her.
Thuy NFebruary 4, 2010 at 11:25 am
I’m currently in love with The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. A close second would be The Maze Runner by James Dashner.
CindyFebruary 4, 2010 at 11:50 am
I really liked “Rampant” by Diana Peterfreund – killer unicorns, who would have known ? – and I ‘m waiting impatiently for “Ascendant”!
HannahFebruary 4, 2010 at 12:18 pm
Oh hard question! Probably either “The Hunger Games” or “The Demon’s Lexicon” series (way to be unoriginal by the looks of things! Although I can’t wait to read the sequel to RJ Anderson’s “Knife” either!), but I’m sure there are lots more I’d love.
Thanks for holding the giveaway!
SnazelFebruary 4, 2010 at 12:21 pm
Hmmm, my favorite YA series at the moment, I would have to say is Rick Riodian’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series! It’s delightful!
JessFebruary 4, 2010 at 12:45 pm
My favorite is probably the Hunger Games series, but the Ruby Oliver books by E. Lockhart are a close second. Ooh, and the Wicked Lovely books would be third. So tough to choose!
BienFebruary 4, 2010 at 12:59 pm
I have a lot of favorite series but, at the moment, Garth Nix’s Abhorsen trilogy (also known as the Old Kingdom series) wins my heart over. The world building and character development in all three books were spectacular. I savored the vivid details and really felt attached to the characters (loved Sabriel, Lirael, and Mogget to name a few).
At first, it felt like a darker version of Harry Potter, only with necromancers, and the dead. It wasn’t long, however, when that feeling was soon replaced by the books’ own prowess. And another thing that I loved about it is that the ending was great! My heart felt heavy that the trilogy was over, but the ending was very satisfying. It tied up loose ends and answers topics which most readers are curious about.
Actually, there will be two more additions to the Old Kingdom series but Nix mentioned in his Amazon blog the first one will be set 320 yrs. into the past (‘Clariel: The Lost Abhorsen’, out sometime this year! yay!) and the other several years into Abhorsen’s future (Untitled, 2011).
(P.S. It says that the contest is open to everyone, so I hope that includes bookworms all the way in Asia. *wave*)
Nikki @ BookizzleFebruary 4, 2010 at 12:59 pm
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins! This series had me completely enveloped and pumped as I was reading. It’s going to take a book packed with a punch to dethrone ’em.

Well, I have only read two. Twilight series, and Ms Vincent’s. I gotta go with Screamers! I like that it is just so bloody unique!
joderFebruary 4, 2010 at 2:13 pm
By leaps and bounds it is Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series. It was my first foray into YA reading and even though I’ve continued to read YA books, none meet the high standard Suz set for me. The series is politically thought provoking, a wonderful bit of romance, and the greatest cliffhangers ever. I actually might cry when this series ends I love it so much.
Michelle MFebruary 4, 2010 at 2:25 pm
Wonderful contest! My fav YA series at the moment (there are a few) include: The Demon’s Lexicon by SRB, The Hunger Games by SC, The Dairy Queen trilogy by CGM, the Thief series by MWT and… I know there are others, can’t think of the at the moment! Thanks!
Lindsay ElizabethFebruary 4, 2010 at 2:40 pm
Hmm… Favorite YA is hard. There are so many good series out right now!
I’d have to say that as of now I’m obsessed with Hunger Games and Catching Fire. I love the character of Katniss. She isn’t perfect and doesn’t even know how she feels sometimes, but her fierce loyalty and the balance between protecting her family and rebelling thrills me.
Ladytink_534February 4, 2010 at 2:46 pm
The House of Night series by P.C. & Kristin Cast is my favorite YA series of the moment because I just love the characters! I’ve read all of them twice and I plan on reading them all again one day.
etirvFebruary 4, 2010 at 3:36 pm

Caitlin UsignolFebruary 4, 2010 at 4:33 pm

StacyFebruary 4, 2010 at 5:26 pm
I like the Hunger Games series right now.
StephanieFebruary 4, 2010 at 5:29 pm
I’ve become a big fan of the Kate and Cecy books by Patricia C. Wrede and Carolyn Stevermer – I love the setting, and the fact that the first book (Sourcery and Cecelia, or the Enchanted Chocolate Pot) started as a letter game between the authors.
AshleyFebruary 4, 2010 at 5:29 pm
My favorite YA series is between Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires and Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy. Hmmm … I’m going to go with the Vampire Academy series but it only slightly won out because its a touch more darker and adult.
RoxyFebruary 4, 2010 at 5:47 pm
My favorite is probably the Hunger Games although I have been enjoying Vampire Academy as well.
StacyFebruary 4, 2010 at 6:11 pm
I am re-reading Terry Pratchett’s YA discworld series with Tiffany Aching. Probably my favorite at the moment. The Feegles are hilarious! 😀 Beautiful Creatures, which I recently finished, is a close second.
Linda HendersonFebruary 4, 2010 at 6:11 pm
Well it would have to be the Harry Potter books. They were actually the first YA that I ever read.
SuperFoxyFebruary 4, 2010 at 6:21 pm

I’m going to conform and say the Hunger Games – something about the pacing is so addicting, and Peeta is filled with awesomeness.
Kate AFebruary 4, 2010 at 6:51 pm
It’s so hard to choose just one favourite. I guess my favourite would be the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. But I also love the Hunger Games and the Pendragon series by D.J. MacHale.

lets see this is actually quite hard not that i think about it but i guess my favorite series at the moment is book graceling and it’s companion novel by kristin cashore. I love these books because while it does have romance, it also involves a new and intresting plot. Kristin does a wonderful job at keeping me guessing, and were the first books in a while that i could not put down.
AllysonFebruary 4, 2010 at 8:03 pm
My favorite series at the moment is either the Graceling series by Kristin Cashore, Janice Hardy’s The Shifter series, or Deadly Little Secrets, by Laurie Faria Stolarz. They are all just really good stories, very fun to read with wonderful love stories in all.

PC Cast’s House of Night. I’ve reread all of the earlier books just so I would be ready for Burned when it comes out in April. Oh, then there’s Grant’s
“Gone” series with a new book out in May. Both these series are fabulous.
Beverly H.February 4, 2010 at 9:48 pm

JennyFebruary 5, 2010 at 6:00 am

Leola NormanFebruary 5, 2010 at 6:28 am

At this moment? Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Just reread it for a book group with my “grown-up” friends who responded to my suggestion with, “You want us to read a teen book?” but then raved about how awesome it was. 🙂 I’ll have to wait for my copy of Catching Fire to make its way through all of ’em before I can reread it!

My Favorite YA Series At The Moment Is The Vampire Academy Series My Richelle Mead. This Series Introduces Two Different Kinds Of Vampires Which Are Out Of The Ordinary. That Makes This Series A Breath Of Fresh Air. Not To Mention This Series Is Very Well Written By An Amazing Author. Then Of Course You Have The Angst That Most YA Books Are Known For Having Which Keeps You On The Edge Of Your Seat.
CherylS22February 15, 2010 at 12:51 pm
I don’t think my favorite YA series has a name yet. However, it is “Need” & “Captivate” by Carrie Jones. I love these books mainly because of the fantasy, but also because they’re something different than just another vampire book. Thanks!
