Smugglers Stash

Smugglers Weekly Stash and News

Taking a break from reading in this lovely, cold, rainy, British Winter, whoops, excuse me, I meant Summer, to bring some news:

Around the web:

The voting for the Book Blogger Appreciation Week Award 2008 is under way. You can go here and vote for your favorites!

Free book:

Neil Gaiman and Harper Collins are offering Neverwhere for free downloading. If you never read any Neil Gaiman before, this is the perfect opportunity to start! Go on, you know you want to.

New Releases:

Good news for Stephen King and comic books addicts (ahem ,Thea), on September 10th, Marvel is releasing two comics based on King’s books:

DARK TOWER: TREACHERY #1 (of 6) , the 3rd arc of the Dark Tower comics: it follows Roland Deschain and his ka-tet after they’ve safely returned back to Gilead. AND Marvel has nnounced that they will be releasing a special top-secret gatefold midnight variant – oooooooo, we are intrigued.

And the debut of

THE STAND: CAPTAIN TRIPS #1 (of 5) based on the book that many acclaim as King’s best work. The art is looking amazing!

This Week:

We kick off the week with a Sookie Stackhouse double feature. To celebrate the start of True Blood, the HBO series based on the books, (first episode airs today) we will post a joint review of book 5, Dead as a Doornail on Monday and then our review of the first episode on Tuesday.

And in our attempt to get acquainted with the Shomi line, we will be reviewing Driven by Eve Kenin this coming Friday.

In the works:

We have been invited to write an article for the Red Room website! Following the recent online discussion about the Huffington Post’s article Will Blogs Save Books, we decided to give our own two cents on the subject. More info will follow!

Also, stay tuned for The Windflower World Tour where a copy of the famous (or infamous) book by Laura London will be making its way around the world finding new fans (or not). Brought to you by Ciaralira and Ana, this promises to be fun!

Toodles!

    Hi!!!
OMG, all this time I have been scouring bookstores for Windflower under the wrong author name! (Curtis) ERRR. Sookie. Sigh. No HBO.

CJ, you were not entirely wrong – Laura London is the pseudonym of Sharon and Tom Curtis.

Should we enter your name for the tour? ; )

I’m excited. Love the DT Comics (duh), and The Stand is an all-time favorite.

Oh yeah and excited for True Blood too 🙂

Oooo fun! I just read DRIVEN and really liked it. Action-adventure-romance, just like Indiana Jones. Yum! I’m excited to try other SHOMI now.

I wanna hunt down someone with HBO so I can watch True Blood. I have the first Sookie Stackhouse book but haven’t read it yet. The trailer for the show looked good. Alexis Morgan is always gushing about Sookie (AM is in my RWA chapter). Maybe I’ll bring it camping so I can comment on your review and actually say something of substance. 😉

CJ – you should join the tour!!!
