Congratulations, Claudia K on winning Greenglass House. If you haven’t read any of Kate Milford’s books, I’m sure you’re in for a treat. I adore the two books of hers that I’ve read. She’s elevated American folklore to a whole new level.

I’ve been in a reading slump this past month, which is one of the reasons I’ve been so quiet here lately. I was excited about Vicious when I first read about it in one of your On the Smugglers’ Radar columns. Now, after reading Thea’s review of it and Ana’s pre-review squeeing about Ancillary Justice, I can’t wait to read them. Looks like the anticipation has cured my reading slump. I can’t wait for the library to get its copies in. Luck for me, I’m first on the hold list for each of them.

I start a new job on Monday that entails a long bus and train commute. I picked up some great books from the library to read on the train to while away those commute hours. They include:
Rose Under Fire – For once I’ve avoided reading any reviews until I’ve read it myself. I want to go into it fresh (other than the trepidation I feel about my still barely patched together heart after Code Name Verity ripped it still beating from my chest and then proceeded to cut it into ribbons – but in a good way. So I have to ask: Really, should I be reading this in public much less while wearing mascara? I fear I’ll be a smeary mess by the time I get off the train.
    Conjured – see above question
    The 5th Wave – same?
Plus I’m re-listening to the His Dark Materials trilogy and am on The Amber Spyglass right now. I think it’ll be time for some Hilary McKay or the Mac Nac Feegle to pull me from the brink.

As always, looking forward to this week’s reviews, guest posts, and finding out our October OSW Readalong selection.

I forgot to ask re Ancillary Justice: From reading the description, I’m kind of getting a Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell vibe from it. Is that true or should I wait until Friday to find out?
