Smugglivus

Countdown to Smugglivus – Kim Lenox

Day 17 (9 days to Smugglivus and counting)

Who: Kim Lenox, writer of paranormal romance. She debuted this year with her first book in her Shadow Guard series, set in Victorian times and with Jack, the Ripper as a villain.

Recent Work: Night Falls Darkly – do not let the man-titty cover put you off. Night Falls Darkly is a very dark, atmospheric downright good work for a debut. You can check Ana’s review here.

We give the floor to Kim:
______________

Thank you to The Book Smugglers for inviting me to participate in Smugglivus!

I’m Kim Lenox, and my debut novel, NIGHT FALLS DARKLY, is currently on bookseller shelves. It’s the first book in a series about the Shadow Guards — an ancient order of immortals tasked with removing the most wicked and morally deteriorated of mortal souls from the earth’s population. NIGHT is set in the year 1888, in Jack-the-Ripper London … and I’ll give you one guess as to which evil soul my hero is there to defeat. The second book in the series, SO STILL THE NIGHT will be out in May 2009. If you’re interested in learning more, I invite you to my website, www.kimlenox.com, where you can read more about the Shadow Guards, as well as excerpts from both books.

Enough about me! What books have I enjoyed this year? I’m a huge fan of historical paranormals. I guess that’s obvious? Swirling mist? Ghostly specters? Dangerous secrets? I’m there! One of my recent favorites has been Allison Chase’s DARK TEMPTATION. This is the second book in her Blackheath Moor series, and tells the story of Sophie St. Claire and Chad Rutherford, Earl of Wycliffe. The story kept me engaged, and turning pages right up to the climactic ending.

Another of my favorite authors is Shana Abe. Miss Abe combines lush, stylistic writing with three-dimensional, complex characters and a riveting plot. This year I read and wholeheartedly enjoyed QUEEN OF DRAGONS. I really love this drákon series, and the mythology Miss Abe has created. So what do I hope the Smugglivus Elf will bring me for 2009? A copy of Ms. Abe’s THE TREASURE KEEPER.

What else is on my wish list? While I don’t think I’ll ever prefer electronic reading over traditional paper books, there are times when I wish I had an e-reader. After hearing some very enthusiastic user reviews, I’ve got my eye on the ebookwise reader, which is about half the price of a Kindle or a Sony reader.

Happy Smugglivus to all!

Thanks, Kim and Happy Smugglivus to you too!

*do not let the man-titty cover put you off*

LOL, oh noes, my friends. This is so much more than man-tit. Actually, If I had my way, I’d have gotten to see more of Archer without a shirt, but…oh wells. It’s still a hot book.

Definitely one of my favorites for ’08! Can’t wait for the second.

But it’s good man titty, as man titty goes…

    😀

I’ve been intrigued by this book since I first heard about it (I think it was Mad from Novel Thoughts?) because I’m one of those people who love reading about all the theories surrounding Jack’s identity.

OMG a comment from THE Azteclady? *swoons*

LOL, so you both like the cover? But but but, there is a flying cape. I love the moon, the colours, the building – remove the semi-naked man and I would be happy. Me no likey.

    Hi Kim,

I also love Shana Abe. ‘Queen of Dragons’ is currently sitting in my TBR pile (along side your debut novel) and I really need to make some time to sit down and read it (both). I’ve been haunting Ms. Abe’s website for an excerpt of ‘The Treasure Keeper’ but to no avail. I hope she posts something soon.

    Merry Christmas,
    VampFanGirl

I’ve had this book on my TBR list since I read the review here. I think I may have to give my library a nudge.

And have I mentioned I went on the Jack the Ripper walk when I lived in London? VERY eerie!

Hiya Kim, I just stopped in to let you know that I really enjoyed your book, I read it a couple of weeks ago and it is definetly a keeper. Your characters rocked from the beginning to the end I could not put it down.

KMont and azteclady, it looks like I’ll need to crochet another tiny little man sweater for Ana’s copy of NFD. I tell you, it’s those faulty Victorian era buttons.

VampFanGirl, I’ve got my eye open for that excerpt of Abe’s THE TREASURE KEEPER as well! Her writing is just sigh-worthy.

Orannia – I hope you enjoy the book!

And Sarabelle, a big THANK YOU for the kind words on the book. I’m so glad you enjoyed the story!
